What is Spark!?
Spark! brains@work is a unique online brain training program, designed by Australian company The Brain Department, specifically to meet the needs of large organisations and their employees.
Spark! offers a scientifically validated series of innovative and engaging brain training exercises developed by award winning, world renowned, neurologist Dr. Croisile, MD, PhD, & his team of neuro-psychologists and scientific advisors. The cognitive improvement of users of the programs have been validated in a number of studies, both in Europe and North America.
Why do we need brain training?
Today’s workplace is busier and more competitive than ever. But with Spark! your employees can learn to work smarter, not harder.
Contemporary neuroscience is breaking extraordinary new ground in the area of brain plasticity. Previously it was thought that the human brain was ‘hard wired’ in childhood. Recent research, however, has shown that the brain can ‘rewire’ itself. With regular brain training, we can forge fresh neural pathways.
We also now know that the brain starts its slow decline as young as 25 years old. The exercises Spark! offers, however, can reverse this decline by maximising the brain’s capacity to learn and its ability to adapt to new information.

The Benefits
The benefits your organisation and employees can expect from the Spark! program include:
- Clearer and quicker thinking
- Strengthened concentration
- Greater accuracy and decreased error rates
- Sharpened strategic thinking
- Improved decision making
- Enhanced memory for names, numbers and facts
- Reduced response times

How is Spark! delivered?
Employees receive a six month personalised program designed to boost cognitive capacities in five main areas:
- Memory
- Attention
- Language
- Visual spatial
- Executive functioning
User friendly Spark! sessions are delivered via email three times a week, and take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
Programs are tailored to individuals’ strengths and weaknesses. The right personal level is determined by an initial online cognitive assessment, and the training is adjusted throughout to keep people working out at their edge of competency, for optimal results.
Perhaps the most important thing to understand from a scientific perspective is that the variety of exercises is critical, along with the frequency with which the exercises are done.
How do I know it’s working?
Individuals receive instant feedback on their performance after every exercise, benchmarked against the world’s largest cognitive results database. They can also view their personal “Spark! Profile” showing their progress over time. At the completion of the 6 month Spark! program, individuals will also receive a comprehensive Personal Cognitive Performance report.
Management will be kept informed of team members’ participation throughout the program, but individual scores will be kept confidential. At the completion of the 6 month Spark! program, management will receive detailed results reports aggregated over designated groups.

“Cognitive change across the lifespan shows that mental abilities such as mental speed, memory and attention decline steadily from the early 20s.”

“Best of all, studies* indicate the effects of brain training are lasting.”

“The key in developing exercises is to give the brain the right stimuli, in the right order, with the right timing to drive plastic change.” Norman Doidge MD, author The Brain That Changes Itself
Spark! training is online, which means it can be accessed globally (anywhere, anytime with an internet connection) to fit in with your team’s busy schedules.
“I look forward to my dose of Spark! It is fun and easy to use and I always make time for it. It encourages me to use my brain differently to the established day-to-day thinking patterns, as well as improve my skills and/or speed in weak areas. I believe that Spark! training will keep my brain fit and agile and it will be beneficial to my personal and professional life.”
